Five Norfolk things to do in August

1. Carnival spirit!

It’s carnival season and two of the coast’s best are on this month, with Sheringham kicking off proceedings from 30 July – 7 August and Cromer taking residence for a week on 13-19 August. There are crazy competitions, funfairs, displays and, of course, parades, so get ready to join in the fun.

2. 80s night

Dig out your neon legwarmers and disco gear and relive the 80s at a glorious evening of music at Holkham Hall. Big name bands Level 42, Go West, Big Country and Brother Beyond lead singer Nathan Moore will be rocking the estate on 27 August.

3. Dig deep

We love an agricultural show – well we do live in the country – and the Aylsham Agricultural Show on 29 August is one of the best. Experience Norfolk’s rural way of life with farm animals on display alongside crafts and shopping at Blickling Hall’s parkland.

4. Kids’ stuff

Every Wednesday in August, the Brancaster Activity Centre is inviting families to enjoy simple Norfolk pleasures such as kite flying, stone skimming, bug hunting and animal tracking, Little ones get to collect stickers and stamps as they tick off the adventures throughout the day. Meet at Brancaster Beach at 10am and play until 4pm (parking charges apply).

5. Art house

Enjoy fabulous art, sculpture, photography and even a jewellery showcase at the Bircham Gallery’s free Summer Exhibition. This vibrant show of both established and upcoming artists runs until 7 September – call 01263 713312 for times.
