Norfolk Hotels takes a tour… with The Norfolk Motorcycle Company
Just when you think you’ve seen done and everything there is to experience in Norfolk, someone comes up with a novel idea that gives you a new perspective on our wonderful county.
One such individual is David Loughlin who has launched The Norfolk Motorcycle Company hiring classic motorbikes upon which to enjoy coast and country. We caught up with him to find out more…
How did The Norfolk Motorcycle Company come about?
“For a long time, a group of friends and I have enjoyed getting together for a ride out at the weekend, and we often talked about the idea of creating a company where others who love motorbikes could enjoy an occasional ride. Earlier this year, I just thought it was too good an idea not to put into motion, and so we launched The Norfolk Motorcycle Company.”
What bikes can we ride?
“We are great fans of the Royal Enfield marque, and today the bikes incorporate modern, reliable technology along with classic motorcycle style. We have two Royal Enfields, a Classic 500 single seat and Bullet 500 dual seat. Additionally we’ve recently invested in a 125cc engine bike which is an extremely easy ride.”
Where should we go?
“Ah, there are so many fantastic places to ride a motorcycle in Norfolk. A favourite weekend is an early start and a ride along the coast road to Wells-next-the-Sea for breakfast. We’ll then head onto Sheringham and Cromer before a leisurely ride back across country and then through Sedgeford and Docking, past the lavender fields, back to base in Hunstanton.
“But we also have clients who book the bikes for a weekend or longer and tour further afield. There’s plenty of military history across Norfolk, and many American visitors enjoy using the bikes as a way to tour from location to location.”
What’s the feedback been to The Norfolk Motorcycle Company?
“Invariably the first thing people say when they arrive back after a ride and hop off the bike is, “That was brilliant!” It sounds a bit odd, but the bikes have masses of character, and wherever you ride them people will always stop and ask you about them, or fondly share their memories of Royal Enfields. Of course we love it, it’s part of the pleasure of owning and running the business.”
