A private charter on the Norfolk coast
The North Norfolk Heritage Coast between Holme-next-the-Sea and Cley is appreciated by many thousands of visitors each year. Walking is the usual way to explore its secret natural treasures but for those with access to the water, visiting less accessible places by boat is a special privilege.
As a former Royal Marine and UN envoy, there isn’t a safer pair of hands to guide visitors along the North Norfolk coast and marsh creeks than Henry Chamberlain. As well as bearing the RYA Yachtmaster Coastal qualification, Henry’s professional experience encompasses small boat training in the Royal Marines with the Special Boat Service®, with operational experience in the Indian Ocean and the Sudd of South Sudan.
Brought up a few miles inland, Henry has known Norfolk’s creeks and coastal routes as a sailor all his life. When he returned to his home county it seemed like an ideal opportunity to create his own bespoke charter business. Called the Coastal Exploration Company, it offers a new way to appreciate the most beautiful parts of the shores and creeks safely and peacefully.
Henry has sourced and refurbished three traditional Norfolk boats: a sea-going whelk boat (Salford) and crab boat (My Girls) and a mussel flat that was designed for harvesting mussels in Brancaster Harbour. All required complete renovation but are now back on the water.
Together they offer access to the wild, spectacular Norfolk coastal shoreline, all under canvas and oar to ensure that its local wild inhabitants are disturbed as little as possible. Visitors can also create their own unique tours with options such as wild swimming, celestial navigation and foraging on offer.
Creating your dream crew and choosing your own personal tour (subject to tides and accessibility) is one of the most luxurious ways to discover these wild, natural spaces. It’s an experience that can create idyllic memories for family and friends whether you want to get involved with the sailing (and rowing!), or simply want to settle back and watch the sublime shoreline slip by.
