Reinventing the G&T

At Norfolk Hotels, we are passionate about celebrating the people who help us to create a unique experience at our venues, and recently Briarfields’ Carl Howell met up with The Norfolk Sloe Company’s Patrick and Sarah Saunders who are creating a craft range of gins locally:

‘A relatively new business that’s been around for just under four years, the Saunders still create their high quality gin at home (actually in their garage!) along with a range of brandies.

Looking for a new venture, the couple started the business with family support, while holding down full-time jobs. Initially their brandy captured people’s imagination, receiving good feedback but just before Christmas one year they struck upon the idea to expand into gin.

A rush of pre-orders forced their arm and after a tasting trip they met Charles Maxwell who offered some invaluable advice and guidance. Sourcing stylish packaging, including an eye-catching label designed with the help of their two children, they launched a premium product which uses local Norfolk ingredients.

The Saunders’ range of gins, brandies and truffles has been well-received and they have worked hard to showcase the company at Norfolk events including the Wells Carnival and Holkham Food and Drink Festival.

So, what’s the best way to serve the perfect G&T? According to the Saunders, a chilled, wide-mouthed glass (such as Briarfields’ red wine glasses) with your preferred gin and a small amount of tonic offers a fantastic way to relax with a glass before dinner. We’re big fans at Briarfields, so pop in and allow us to share this Norfolk gem of a product with you.’
